2010's Best Newcomer is JK

JK Brit Asia Awards

Having successfully picked up the Best Newcomer Award earlier this year at the UK AMA’s (UK Asian Music Awards), UK born Panjabi vocalist JK further cemented his reputation as one of the hottest properties in the UK Asian Music scene by scooping the ‘Best Newcomer’ award at the first inaugural Brit Asia Music Awards

JK universal popularity is explained by Radio 1 DJ Nihal;

“If Bhangra was a martial art then JK would be the new warrior in town with Tru-Skool as his shaolin master. He has the raw talent, the self belief and the uncompromising attitude that will mark him out as an artist with decades of music in front of him. He has done his apprenticeship behind closed doors waiting to unleash his talent on an unsuspecting world. I am not Panjabi but my gosh every time he sings even I know that something special is going on”

Held at the prestigious Symphony Hall, Birmingham, the Brit Asia Music Awards saw the biggest names in the UK Asian Music circuit come together, with JK delivering a memorable opening performance to kick off the night.

JK put on a scintillating vocal performance, delivering his now cult anthem ‘Chooteh Laareh’. The crowd were then treated to a new yet to be named single from his highly anticipated album, followed up by the song that initiated JK into the UK Asian Music scene ‘Gabru Punjab Dha’. The stunning performance was complimented by traditional Bhangra dancers and urban break dancers, who both equally excelled.

Having successfully opened the night, JK was presented with the Best Newcomer Award by world renowned urban star Kano, an award voted directly by the public & JK’s ever growing fan base.

With fierce competition in the Best Newcomer Category, JK was up against some of the biggest names in the industry such as; Jaz Dhami, Mumzy & Jaswinder Daghamia, all three achieving great success over the past year.

JK is gearing up for his debut album release titled ‘Gabru Punjab Dha’. The album, set for a June 2010 release, is already being touted as one of the most highly anticipated debut Bhangra album of all time.

With the Bhangra community across the globe eagerly anticipating the release of his debut album, BBC Asian Networks Bobby Friction gave his thoughts on the potential JK possesses;

“At last we have an emerging artist with the talent, voice and looks to be a contender. JK has been blessed with the goods to take pure Bhangra to another level across the planet, as is as real as they come. The old guard of Bhangra needs to watch their backs!”

JK ‘s debut album is set for a June 2010 release on VIP Records. For more on JK, visit http://www.viprecords.co.uk now!
