A+ A A- Top #Bhangra Songs 'June 2018'

Over the month of June we had weekly Twitter polls asking the audience to vote for their favourite bhangra songs and videos. Usually people think the most popular artists would receive the most votes however this was not the case.

When looking at the best male songs released over the month many liked ‘Tha Tha’ by Dr Zeus ft Preet Singh, Zora Randhawa and Fateh, ‘Kohinoor’ by Kulwinder Billa, ‘Tera Harley’ by Gurj Sidhu, and ‘Yaar Punjabi’ by Dipps Bhamrah ft Apna Sangeet.

Besides ‘Tha Tha’ and ‘Kohinoor’ being one of the top songs of the month, people also enjoyed the video to these alongside the video to Akhil’s ‘Gora Rang’ and Baljit Malwa’s ‘Maujan 2.’

As an alternative option, artists are releasing lyrical videos which have proven to being doing well. For example, ‘Tera Harley’ by Gurj Sidhu did extremely well. This shows the audience are not only basing their views by looking at videos but also the quality of the song itself. Other lyrical videos released during the month were Parmish Verma’s ‘Dhol Wajea’ and Gupz Sehra’s ‘Shades.’

Many people think India are in a stronger position when looking at the number of songs released. But is the quality still there? The polls showed not only music from India, but music is appreciated on a global scale especially when artists like Dr Zeus and Dipps Bhamrah, who do not release songs as often as other artists, but when they do they leave a mark.

Although the above songs received most votes Amrit Mann’s ‘Difference,’ Ammy Virk’s ‘Hath Chumme’ and Gagan Kokri’s ‘Laavan Tere Naal’ all which are very different from each other received a good response and were tracks the audience also enjoyed to listen to.

In June, there were not many female artists releasing songs. The one song which really stood out was ‘Sip Sip’ by Jasmine Sandlas. Even though Jasmine performed this song at events before it was officially released, people were eager to watch the video. Other female artists that released songs were Raashi Sood with ‘Channa’ and Meet Kaur released ‘Nakhre.’
