A Brief on Tru Skool ...

Tru Skool, Who is he? Where is he? What is he ? He’s a producer, he’s a musician, a remixer, a composer, a sound engineer and now vocalist !!!. An individual who is sometimes explosive and energetic and other times quiet, calm and relaxed, a fully dynamic person.

Experience

Disregarding his musical knowledge and experience for a moment, we have the roots of this musical genius. His sound is unique and immediately mirrors his personality, the explosiveness, the energy are all captured in both the albums, you may have danced to them in clubs. The calmness and relaxed elements are definitely captured too. Either way Tru Skools tracks have become anthems on the Bhangra circuit

With only two releases THE WORD IS BORN and REPAZENT, the two albums have bounced Tru Skool into the Bhangra industry as a serious player, Fact. Be warned there’s still more to come.

With such a strong music base, Tru Skool actually delivers what he claims to and intends to, he’s True to his art, a believer of the of the 70s Indian Folk era and true to the 90s Hip hop days. We have a successful description of the name TRU SKOOL. Adding his musical aspects to the mix, his catalogue of instruments include Tabla, Dholaki, Dhol and Drums for percussion and plays more traditional instruments such as the Harmonium or Keyboards, Tumbi and Algoze, surely you the reader will agree this is a massive catalogue of instrumentation.

His sound engineering experience pushes the creative levels off the scale. A Dhol with bass, a sharp vocal, complex composition has been engineered and finished to sound exactly how you hear it, clean clear and concise production which is a quality that so many producers lack.

The story originally started for Tru Skool as a musician who had a sole aim to play his live percussion instruments. He had no intention of producing. At an early age of 13 he started playing drums, this wasn’t a child hood phase but an ambition to play and reproduce Hip Hop beats he heard from the 90s. Musical classes at school lead to the formation of a young Hip Hop band called OUTA ORDA, Tru Skool provided the beats. All the youngsters had the same dream in mind, to lock an album signing and appear on the much watched YOW MTV RAPS series.

The Punjabi and Folk sounds that Tru Skool is accustom to came from a musically based family who listened to the likes of 70s Folk artists mainly Kuldeep Manak. His influences also came from religion and Sikh Hyms (Kirtan) which focuses on the Harmonium, the Tabla and vocalists. This is why the character of Tru Skools music is so defined and in Tru Skools word "IF YOU DON’T LIKE THIS SOUND, THEN DON’T EXPECT ANYTHING DIFFERENT FROM ME".

Making moves

All great artists have an Ustad (Teacher), who the student learns his/her art, it is Punjabi music tradition to name the Ustad, and thank them for what the student has learnt. Pritam Singh is the Ustad who Tru Skool has learnt to play the Tabla from, from a students view Tru Skool will continue to learn and expand his musical knowledge.
