"Assay Passay" is a Punjabi alternative/indie single by artist Talwiinder in collaboration with music producer Dropped Out, it serves as the debut track and first glimpse into Talwiinder's EP, Paiinted Feeliings.  Kuliwinder caught up with to talk about this and more!

‘Assay Passay’ is about how the people and spaces around us can shape who we become without us even realising it. What people or places have had the biggest influence on the person and artist you are today?

Traveling to India in covid 2021 to follow my passion of making music for living, running into so many people who influenced me in a good and bay ways. As we get more serious about what we want out of life, life will start giving you signs and ignore the noise and people around you who are telling you to not follow your heart.

You’ve built such a distinctive identity around Talwiinder, from the sound to the visuals and the whole world around your music. How much of that was intentional from the beginning, and how much has evolved naturally?

It has evolved naturally into whatever it is today. Beginning intentions were to make good music without any distractions in my visuals, just wanted people to focus only on music and escape reality with me.

You had your ‘Miisfiits’ decoding clues before ‘Assay Passay’ was released. Where did the idea of making your fans part of the build-up come from, and were you surprised by how quickly they figured things out?

Everyday there’s something happening between me and my miisfiits, I was away for a while from social media to focus on making new music for my people but we are back and how.

‘Paiinted Feeliings’ feels like a very personal title. What does it mean to you, and what can we expect to learn about you through the EP that we might not already know?

I asked my miisfiits to send me names for projects and Paiinted Feeliings was one of the answers and I decided to keep the name. You will see how I look at the world in these songs that will make you travel back in time.

Punjabi music is reaching audiences all over the world right now, but your sound doesn’t necessarily fit into one box. How important is it to you to experiment and create something that still feels authentically Punjabi while pushing beyond traditional genres?

It’s always been like that since the first release, first Punjabi artist to do a drill track, to do a loft track and showcase many more genres to my people. We always and will continue to experiment in music because we don’t look at what’s working for others and copy, it’s the other way around so we like to inspire not only our listeners but music artists as well.

For someone listening to ‘Paiinted Feeliings’ from beginning to end for the first time, what do you hope they feel or take away from it?

It’s a book with 4 stories, each expressing its own feeliing. Ps: there’s a surprise at the end of the EP
