Operation Blue Star was the codename for the attack on the Akal Takhat and the Golden Temple complex during the period June 1 to 6, 1984. The Indian army invaded the Harmandir Sahib complex on the orders of the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. At the time of the operation, close to 100,000 army troops had been deployed throughout Punjab.

Besides the historic weapons carried by Sikhs, the kirpans and khandas, the group which had fortified the historic Takhat, with rifles, assault weapons & grenades, numbered no more than 250. The Golden Temple, the surrounding Bungas and guest houses and Langar were filled with 2,000 or more pilgrims, guests and employees of the complex. Many had come to visit the Temple on the day associated with the Martyrdom of Guru Arjan. The Army commanders had thought that the size and might of the forces employed to route the Takht's occupiers would convince the Singhs to surrender, but in a long tradition that has seen the Harmandir Sahib sacked and all but destroyed many times in the past, almost all of the Singhs had chosen to stand their ground, to fight and to fall as their historic, legendary Khalsa brothers of the past had done, so many times before, as martyrs defending this holiest site of the Sikh religion from another invasion.

In the attack around 1,600 innocent pilgrims, men, women and children, were also killed in the operation which saw the use of heavy artillery, rockets and tanks being employed, as well. More than 3000 soldiers of the Indian army from many different states, were killed during the attack with more than double that number injured.

June 6th marks an important date in the SIkh Calendar, and in memory of
those who died for their religion, faith to fight oppression, lead by the
great Shaheed Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale.

The retired Big Suga Kane presents his track 'Bhindranwale' marking 26
Years since the events of 1984.

Stop hating...its a heavy track.....wheth er you disagree or agree with either side, it was an event that never shoudl have hap[censored]ed . We should konw just coming out of such an ordeal we become more united and oganized. Were the newest organized religion in the world that has the best of all faiths wrapped into a humanitarian mantra. Stop hating on fellow sikhs. Big ups to Jus Reign (punjabi comedian...has some funny shit) and DJ Aps for getting me in love with 'different' music. Sikhs stand for all who cannot help themselves and show hospitality to all..even our enemies..dont fiht and bicker with each other..its embarrassing... tru say..

Why is it you foreign Sikhs are more Radical then the actual Sikhs in India. If you s[censored]t time in Punjab you would see alot of Hindus going Gurdwara and Alot of Sikhs going Mandir.

This so called Saint raped women and used the people in the Gurdwara as human shields. This was told by a Gyani who worked there at the time and witnessed it! He promoted violence and was brainwashing youngsters to follow his way. Lots of facts that alot of people need to know. Who ever follows this man cant call themselves real Sikhs. This man is insulting Guru Nanak Devji.

I did not say ban kirpans but there is a big difference between a kirpans and a AK-47. BSK is just another phony Sikh that has probably never even read the Guru Granth.

I'm also sick of these Ed hardy wearing losers with khandas tattooed on there arms at clubs clubs drinking and trying to find a random chick they can bang.

Quoting MAFIA PRINCESS:
These Guns were not used by everyone, they were used by those who stood up against the unritougsness - they didnt go and kill randomers, men like Gobind Ram deserves to be killed.

If you say bann all kirpans, which is assoisated with the 5K's, why not say bann all burka's worn by muslim women? ban all nichabs?

Unknown Dj - u clearly don't know much about the events of 84. If your men are being killed for simply being a Sikh, your women being raped because they are Sikh, because the police officals and army generals want to change the blood line of Sikhs, do you honestly think people would just stand there and allow it to hap[censored]? These Guns were not used by everyone, they were used by those who stood up against the unritougsness - they didnt go and kill randomers, men like Gobind Ram deserves to be killed.

what difference is there between kirpans and rifles? Keeping arms are talked about in Sikhi - times have changed, weapons have changed. Mai Bago the body of Guru Gobind SIngh Ji had rifles.

So Sikhs should be allowed to carry guns like AK 47's just like they are allowed to carry kirpans in schools and public events???

So BSK has a girl who posed in playboy in one of his video's and now he has a song about Sikhism and Bhindranwale? I'm sick of these idiots that no nothing about Sikhism but will but out songs about it.

*Oh get over yourself man - you have mans like jazzy b prancing around half dressed chicks, promoting guns in his videos yet he's still releasing religious albums. Its a good song, where its lyrics content is meaningful - i take it you dont understand any meaning behind the song. Never Forget 1984

I understand the lyrics. I just thinks it's BS when people call for a kalistain but would never move there if it was created. Do you think hardcore fundi's like this music made by people like BSK. If they had there way all non religious would be banned.

From reading comments its clear that we all, myself also, need educating on the issue of 1984 and the sikh history. We all have our own versions of what we understand about it which obviously means none of us know the full story. Religions arent at fault, its extremist/radic alised followers are. The government were clearly at fault because there was no need to attack the golden temple, nobody was going anywhere, all exits were covered so they could have just played a waiting game or taken a different approach. And I feel Bindrawale should not have hidden in the golden temple , knowing there were thousands of innocent civillians there. Apparently Bindrawale had organised terrorist attacks, if true then i think this is cowardly but I dont know the facts. All I know is what he stood for was righteous and Indra Ghandi was a power hungry bitch but did alot of good for india. I wish we could all move forward peacefully with each other, but corrupt india and its corrupt people wont let us!

Everyone needs to calm down. The past has hap[censored]ed and theres been a lot of oppression. We shouldnt dwell on the injustice but should remember and learn from it and move forwards. Yea were still being oppressed which is why were fighting for khalistan BUT how will Khalistan support itself? We need the support of india cos we cant survive on agriculture alone. Another thing is Khalistan will never work until its people learn to work together, stop being corrupt bastards and look out for each other, help each other and move in the same direction for the same goal. Sikhs used to be so strong but the Hindu government have done well to weaken us by pushing sects into our religion like ravidas and rada swami (which completely goes against the purpose of sikhism and the people that follow these sects are twats). Us sikhs need to wake up and realise that were all one and we need to fight together, until that hap[censored]s we can all forget khalistan.

the 1984 riots were trigged after the assasination soit wasnt hindus who started this. bhindrawala was a terrorist and died as a terrorist. if you think hindus werent terrorized in punjab, let me tell u ur wrong. i have lived in punjab felt the fear.

in the end if he wanted to fight why did he enter the holy place with rifle and arms not {karpans}.

However i do not condem where the battle was faught on both sides but ghandi and co had seemed to plan alot of this prior. You don't see the americans goin to mecca
