The BBC Asian Network today confirmed that it has axed popular Bhangra show ‘Bhangra Breakdown’ from its schedule.

The show, which has been hosted by Dipps Bhamrah for the past two years , will no longer run after it’s final 3 broadcasts. The show has proved a popular outlet for UK Bhangra on the station, with its large dedicated listener-ship

The BBC Asian Network has gone through a major revamp, as it looks to scale back its spending. It has already confirmed the departures of popular DJ’s Sonny JI & DJ Kayper from the station.

Bhangra Breakdown will now be replaced by a ‘Punjabi Show’ which will be broadcasted on Sunday’s, more details of which is to be confirmed at a later date.

Dipps Bhamrah, host of the show stated on his facebook page;

For the past 2 years iv been presenting Bhangra Breakdown on BBC Asian Network. For the past 7 years i have been a presenter on the station. With a heavy heart i have to let you know that in 3 weeks time i will be presenting the final Bhangra Breakdown and my final show on BBC Asian Network.

As we all know, BBC Asian Network is launching a new schedule which is to be an ambitious but tighter sche
dule. Unfortunately this means the loss of some shows and strands, including Bhangra Breakdown.

Asian Network still has a real commitment to UK and Bhangra music. Bhangra will continue to have a home on Sunday’s in the new Punjabi show which will launch later in the year. It is not the end for Bhangra music”

Dipps Bhamrah will also be leaving the station.

What do you think of the new changes to BBC Asian Network – Do you still feel it supports UK Bhangra music?

JATT MIRZA - I called you out because you were agreeing with Santa Banta who said "all the fake DJ's....C**ts have ruined the music industry"

I agree with your comment about Dipps Bhamra & Bobby Friction, but Sonny Ji is on another level & he did'nt deserve to go.

Good for bhangra - YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THE [censored] YOUR ON ABOUT MATE - ITS A FACT THAT SONNY JI MIXES LIVE ON AIR FOR 2 HOURS NON-STOP, JUST BY USING 2 CD J's & A MIXER, NOT FORGETTING HE MIXES BHANGRA INTO ALL GENRES OF MUSIC, YOU THINK YOU CAN DO BETTER.........JATT MIRZA - YOU SOUND LIKE A TYPICAL ANGRY JEALOUS DHESI......BIG UP SONNY JI & DJ KAYPER!!!

Ummm not so sure why you would call me out. Infact I agree Sonny ji is a sick dj. He has the balls to mix live.

Dipps bhamrah on the other hand is a very average DJ. He either plays his dad's overrated music or some fakeass DJ's copy paste songs. Him and the freakshow that is Booby Friction deserved the boot

Disappointing but at the end of the day its bbc's loss, getting rid of good shws = less listeners the presnters asked us to help them when there were been cuts, bbc should have asked the public what shows were good / not?
