Running into its second year, ‘Birmingham Mela 2012’ 2012 will look to exceed last year’s inaugural event that attracted crowds of over 40,000 people. After an opening by Jazzy B and Sukhshinder Shinda, thousands enjoyed performances from the biggest names in the music industry including Garry Sandhu, Foji Gill, Shin DCS and Sarbjit Cheema on one of the hottest weekends of the year.

The ‘Birmingham Mela 2012’ will be a weekend extravaganza that will be a mix of music, stalls, sport, community showcases and a funfair. Combing international artists with community arts and cultural groups, the event will be a celebration of South Asia culture.

Over the next few months, Raaj FM and Sandwell Council will be preparing for the Mela alongside with event product company Remarkable Productions and Events who produced last years event.

Gurpal Singh, Raaj FM Manager:

“After the overwhelming success of this year’s Mela, we cannot wait for Birmingham Mela 2012. We are anticipating our crowds to double from last year’s event as the Mela is taking place over the whole weekend. We were delighted on hearing the news that the Olympic torch would be coming through the park during the Mela. Undoubtedly, this has enhanced our ambition to make this a summer showpiece that the whole of the West Midlands can be proud off.”

“Set in the heart of the community, this event is for every single person. From music to stalls to sport, our event is a celebration of South Asian culture which we want the whole community to enjoy. So get the weekend of 30th June and 1st July in your diary now!”
