Exclusive Interview with Isha Rikhi

IshaRikhi

Isha Rikhi the model who turned an actress. Isha has not had any acting training, yet she has worked a long big name’s in Punjabi films with the latest film being ‘Happy Go Lucky’ starring alongside Amrinder Gill and Gurpreet Guggi. Kulwinder caught up with her for a quick chat.

Hey Isha how you doing?

Hello I’m well how are you?

I’m great thank you. I believe you were a model before, why did you want to become an actress?

Well basically when I was 6-7 years old everyone would ask ‘what would you like to be when you grow up?’ my response was to become Miss India. However, when I turned 16 I gave an audition and when I was 17 I entered as a model. When I was 18-19 I then started acting and offered roles. I’ve done 5-6 films in which 3 are released and the 4th one is Happy Go Lucky, the rest I am working on.

How has your acting life been?

When I first came into the industry I was lonely and felt that I couldn’t act. But because of my directors, co-actors and the team it all came naturally and I was confident in getting myself on screen to act.

How has your experience been acting in Happy Go Lucky?

Happy Go Lucky has been an amazing experience until now. Thanks to everyone on set they have been fabulous. My role is being a sister to the other two girls in the film and the chemistry was there so it was easy to adapt. I have learnt a lot during the duration of the film.

How long did it take to shoot Happy Go Lucky?

It took us about 35-37 days.

That wasn’t that long.

35 days we shot in Chandigarh, which is my hometown!

WOW you are so lucky that must have been so ideal!

It was an amazing experience; therefore this film is very special to me.

That’s great, so it allowed you to be more comfortable because you were aware of the surroundings.

Yes, exactly.

IshaRikhi

So is Happy Go Lucky a comedy film?

Umm no, there is some comedy but it’s more of a family entertaining film. In this film both the boys and girls have had a same amount of screen time and the chemistry is visibfle.

Do you feel your acting has improved over time?

Yes defiantly, I have improved a lot. I watch my previous films and find mistakes. However, if your director is good such as Amarpreet Chabbra then it is good it helps a lot. I feel that acting is something, which you can learn naturally.

What was your best scene?

It has to be with Amrinder who is my hero. We are both fighting, I’m hitting him and this is my first time when I meet my co-actor in the film. Also I think that scene is perfect I am very confident (laughs).

What was your difficult scene?

I guess it was when I didn’t have a dialogue to deliver. This was difficult because when you have a dialogue you can perform and figure things out, but when there’s not a dialogue it’s hard especially as a new actress because you need to get used to it. Also when there is no dialogue you have to react according to the co-actors actions.

Can you elaborate on your character Sirat in the film, how easy or hard was it to be this particular character?

In reality I am a very calm person I don’t react much, however in this film I play a role of a very loud character. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, because of my director and his description of the character. He wanted an aggressive loud person in which he helped me to achieve.

How did you feel when you found out your making a film with Amrinder Gill?

With Amrinder it was a great experience, I had worked with him before but that was a small appearance.  Then 2 years later I found I was doing a lead role with him, so the feeling was great. He really helped me a lot; he’s very supportive as a co-actor.

So I heard Amrinder is your favourite singer?

Ya he is, I really like his voice. I love his sad romantic songs

So what is your favourite song in Happy Go Lucky?

I like the sad song Vichoda, it is my favourite.

      Favourite dialogue?

There are so many dialogues of mine, which I liked, so it is difficult to tell you which one exactly.

How was it working with your co stars?

It was good to work with others like Gurpreet Guggi Ji, Haresh Verma, Shruti Sodhi, Dakshita Kumaria, Sumeet Sandhu, and others it was a good experience. We all met first time on set but since finishing the film we are still good friends. Especially with Shruti Sodhi who is opposite Haresh Verma, she and I are very close friends.

How are you feeling for the release?

I’m very excited, I know a lot of people are talking about the trailer and are very excited to watch it on the 21st November. Let’s see fingers crossed?

Why should we go and watch Happy Go Lucky?

Because I feature in it! The music is superb, in the film we have given our 100% I hope the public are entertained; I like the film so I hope everyone else does too.
